Our Liberty Apple Tree

I didn’t grow up with a Vita-Mix in my home. I sure wish I would have!  I think I would have had so much fun creating delicious concoctions. But I had to wait until I was an adult, with my own family, before I got one. With it, I have my own smoothie-bar! My Vita-Mix sits on my counter, and I have used it every day,  since following Dr. Fuhrman’s Eat To Live high-nutrient plant-based diet.

We have started drinking Green Smoothies for breakfast. Of course it depends on what we have, but often it is:  single serving-1/2 frozen banana, 3-5 frozen strawberries, 1/2 C. frozen blueberries, 1 TBS. raw unsalted cashews, 1/4 C. plain unsweetened soymilk (Tom prefers 3/4 C. Cranberry Juice Light), dash of cinammon, and 3 large leaves of Swiss chard or kale, with the stems. Turn dial from 1-10, then HIGH and process 45 seconds or until smooth. I put it in a tall glass with a straw and Tom sits and slurps happily, getting every last drop!

Depending upon your ingredients, your Greenies can range from bright green to a chocolate-brown (with red and green ingredients). It doesn’t take long to get used to these unusual colors…because they taste so good!

We gave a Vita-Mix to our new grandbaby and his mom and dad. Amy has been sharing recipes from her new Vita-Mix recipe book with me. They are in keeping with the times and are healthy, nutritious and delicious! Her latest comment was: “I actually made up my own smoothie recipe, called ‘Le Garbage’…I take all of my overripe but still edible fruit and blend it with ice.  I may never throw out produce again!  Dee-lish.“  She uses it every day! And hasn’t even gotten to making baby-food yet. I’m very happy for all of them.

My first Vita-Mix had a stainless steel container and a wooden hamper. It kept it’s value well and I sold it online when I “needed” (wanted) the new 5000 with the see-through container. I have said I would take it to a desert island! (Think of what you could do with pineapples and coconuts and island fruits!)  Now I love the redesigned lid on the new 5200 machines. And I would love to get my hands on the newest recipe book!
